The history, this short version, shows a gathering on November 7th, 1990. It was more of an "Open House" party, just to gather poets to plan the structure/ground-rules. Then the first meeting was in December.
Dottie Mack was the group's founder. Isabel Masel gave the group its name, saying, "I know, we are the Northeast Indiana Poets Of Every Type Society; and that spells 'POETS'."
Other founding/early members:
- Sally Ade
- Merle Aldrich
- Eleanor Cranmer
- Carlotta Fox
- June Mauritzen
- Betty Ortiz
- Mildred Rose
- Charles Waldemath
- Laura Miller
- Joan Wilcox
