April is National Poetry Month!

Welcome to NATIONAL POETRY MONTH!

Each year in April, we celebrate National Poetry Month (NPM) with things like daily prompts, and this year we also have a PSI Featured Poets blog.

If you would like to share your prompts-inspired poems with Poetry Society of Indiana, please feel free to post them under the daily prompts on our public Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/PoetrySocietyIN/  As always, poets, please remember that any poems posted in comments on Facebook's public pages may be considered as "published." If you would like to become a member of Poetry Society of Indiana, you can then join our private Facebook group page, where posted poems are not considered "published." Membership information can be found here: https://www.poetrysocietyofindiana.org/psi-membership.html.

We also create a collaborative poem in celebration of National Poetry Month.
You can find some of these poems below.

In April

My nose leads my eyes
to Lily of the Valley
at shaded woods edge
where slumbering birds stir at dawn
and tall grasses wave greetings with
friendly whispered welcomes there
where sunlight takes its first long step and
the hyacinth bubbles its white to the sky
the daffodil trumpets its yellow horn;
as poets we sew the wordseeds of wonder
the petals of love and the stems of knowing the
bride’s joyful bouquet
of bell-shaped lilies, roses
welcomes memories
that linger like the kiss of
a lover long gone
so with a sigh thinking
Rejoice!
The greys have gone green,
a typhoon of bloom
each year emboldened by life’s May Queen,
my words are planted beautifully with poise and
colored far beyond one’s imagination;
in three weeks, I may die off, but my root is still within
and next spring I’ll sprout up again;
we are all rising like the sun with poetic voices that carry a ton;
we are all exquisitely favorable and embodied as one,
a band of poets as spring flowers
each arriving on the green carpet,
one at a time splendidly announced,
uniquely diverse in dancing rainbow colors,
garden rows surround me
grounding me to zen,
ground leaves for tea
growing the gardenias for me,
bursts of colors reaching to the sky
in the fields we grow wild and free;
in greater number with each passing year
the wonder of life eagerly to see,
poets are an array of colorful blossoms in
an endless variety of shapes and sounds,
their poems bloom when they gather, and
spread word pollen to leave lingering scents
upon reader’s fingertips, with
specks of universe to intrigue the mind,
inspiration waters the soil of experience;
ideas bud, imagery blossoms,
phrases vine up the trellis of form;
we prune the excess.
O Mighty Spring!
Your blustery, cleansing winds
turn the page from dreams to wakefulness;
your paean
of pre-dawn bird concerto
resonates with the singing glory
of each pod, each seed
desiring to become itself.
