Tom Barmes Sings "Sam's Song"

5/23/2016

Singer and songwriter Tom Barmes lives in Elwood, Indiana. His songs, Big Boy Ballads, were written during his children's formative years. His love for children is expressed in all his songs, including "Sam's Song," which he included in his performance at ISFPC Spring Meet. Sam is an enjoyable entertainer with stories to tell, and an easy "folksy style."

Spring Meet Highlights

ISFPC gathered at Fox Island County Park, Fort Wayne for our Spring Meet on May 14. NI Poets (Northeast Indiana Poets Of Every Type) proved gracious hosts. They provided everything from homemade snacks to music to diamond stickers to celebrate ISPFC's diamond anniversary. That's right, ISFPC is 75 years old! So our subtitle of the day was "Gemstones of Poetry and History."

Spring Meet was also an officially endorsed Indiana Bicentennial Legacy Project. See ISFPC's other bicentennial events here.

Other Important Highlights of Spring Meet

We installed 3 new officers:

1st Vice President
Deborah Petersen

Deborah is also serving as Fall Rendezvous Annual Contest Chair. This fun and elegant lady has lived overseas and now calls Indiana her home.

Manningham Chair
Linda Eaton

Linda is a retired educator who will be a great resource for our student-geared Manningham Contest. She is also a budding voiceover artist and gardener.

We welcome them and thank the retiring officers for their service.

Please note the vice presidents no longer have to serve as contest chairs, though they may if needed. The offices were separated after consulting Nationals and our guiding source on bylaws, Practical Parliamentary Procedure. The bylaw committee is currently revising the bylaws. If you wish to participate, consult our President, Sandra Nantais. Look for the revised version on this website a month before Fall Rendezvous.

Thank you, NI Poets, officers, guest speakers, and members, for a lovely Spring Meet! See you October 14-16 at Spring Mill State Park for 2016 Fall Rendezvous!

Last Stanza, the poetry club with the cool name, turned 5 years old recently! Check out the video founder Jenny Kalahar made to celebrate.

Jenny also says:

I'd love to create a video of the past and present ISFPC. I'd need your photos to use, and any text to go along with the (people identified, places, etc.). It would then be posted on Youtube and can be uploaded to Facebook,
isfpc.org etc.

Spring Meet After-Party

Spring Meet is this Saturday!

Hope you'll be joining us for the ISFPC Spring Meet on Saturday, May 14, in Ft. Wayne! Details here.

Our own Caroline Dewey wanted to make you aware our poets have some excellent options as "After-party Tours" in Fort Wayne.

Fort Wayne is a vibrant arts community. The whole Arts Campus is around Main Street from Canal Street to Clinton Street, with a pretty little Arts restaurant on the south side of the street.

After Spring Convention Saturday, for those around:

Sunday 5/15/16, 1:00 p.m. Tour of Lincoln Collection (ACPL)
[only set tour~ by sign-up only at convention]

Sunday - May 15th 12-5 ArtLink (open, expecting poets)
Tina welcomed our poets and said it is a $2 recommended donation.

Sunday - May 15th 12-5 Fort Wayne Museum of Art
Please see attached photo for amazing Paradigm Gift Shop
(Museum-quality Art items for sale)

Sunday - May 15th Many area churches holding mass/services; Cathedral has 11:30 a.m. mass (Calhoun Street, south of Jefferson)

Fort Wayne History Center (History Museum) is only open the first Sunday of each month 12-5 pm; but open 10-5 on Friday.

DON'T MISS THESE OPPORTUNITIES TO BE INSPIRED AND WRITE.

Museum of Art said our poets may "bring pencils" into the museum, and not the exhibit number and artist from display card for potential Ekphrastic poetry match-up later. They will contact artist for us. --Again, this is not an organized tour, and a small fee is necessary for the entry to the Museum, with 7 distinct galleries. Then that fabulous Paradigm store is one you will be pleased to see. Certainly this is "A GEM"!

MAIN STREET BISTRO -Sunday brunch 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
