Book Launch for Mapping the Muse: A Bicentennial Look at Indiana Poetry

Joyce Brinkman (Poet Laureate 2002-2008) invites you to help Brick Street Poetry launch Mapping the Muse: A Bicentennial Look at Indiana Poetry, a book celebrating Indiana's 200th birthday.  Mapping the Muse is an endorsed Bicentennial Legacy Project recognized by the Indiana Bicentennial Celebration 2016.  The book’s unveiling will be Friday, Dec. 4, at Yats on 86th Street, Indianapolis, in the Trader’s Point Shopping Center.

The book’s premiere will also reveal which poets’ work were selected for publication in its pages. Poets will be reading  intermittently throughout the day and evening to Yats’ customers

Whether you eat dinner at Yats or come earlier for lunch or a snack, bring along the coupon to the right, either loaded onto your phone or printed out.  A percentage of whatever you buy to eat or drink all day long on Dec. 4 will be donated to Brick Street Poetry – if you present this coupon. You can make copies of the coupon and give them to all your friends, but do this ahead of time before you come to Yats. Coupons distributed at the restaurant will be disqualified by the management.

We hope you will come out and help us launch “Mapping the Muse” at the Trader’s Point Yats, 5650 W 86th St. Suite 132, Indianapolis.

Happy Birthday, N.I. Poets!

Have a virtual piece of cake with the Northeast Indiana POETS (or N.I. POETS)!  Check out this deliciousness from their Silver Anniversary Celebration. The party was in July, but DECEMBER happens to be the anniversary *exactly* of their very first meeting, 25 years ago!!!!

Picture
This creative cake was donated for the group's Silver Anniversary by Alexandra Moss Zannis. The decorative art was hand-created by first N.I. POETS' president, Sally Ade! She rolled the silver tissue herself, and made the entire table centerpieces!!

The history, this short version, shows a gathering on November 7th, 1990. It was more of an "Open House" party, just to gather poets to plan the structure/ground-rules. Then the first meeting was in December.

Dottie Mack was the group's founder. Isabel Masel gave the group its name, saying, "I know, we are the Northeast Indiana Poets Of Every Type Society; and that spells 'POETS'."

Other founding/early members:
  • Sally Ade
  • Merle Aldrich
  • Eleanor Cranmer
  • Carlotta Fox
  • June Mauritzen
  • Betty Ortiz
  • Mildred Rose
  • Charles Waldemath
  • Laura Miller
  • Joan Wilcox

Since then, N.I. Poets has taken part in readings at festivals, schools, Fort Wayne Parks' events, Botanical Conservatory, coffee houses, universities, just to name a few! They are affiliated with ISFPC, NFSPS, and Arts United.

You can learn more about N.I. Poets on their Facebook page.

Congrats, N.I. Poets! And many more!
