PSI Annual Poetry Contest


Our annual state contest is open to the public and has numerous categories. The submission period is July 1 - September 1, with results announced at our annual Fall Rendezvous in October.

46th Annual Poetry Contest Rules
Submissions Open July 1 – September 1, 2024
Open to anyone over age 18 from any state or country

  • Email or mail entries and fees in one envelope postmarked no earlier than Jul1 1, 2024, and no later than September 1, 2024, to KJ Carter/PSI. PO Box 67, Frankton IN. 46044-0067, or email entries to [email protected]. Entry fee may be sent via PayPal.com/paypalme/poetrysocietyindiana. Any checks should be made out to PSI and mailed to KJ Carter / PSI, PO Box 67, Frankton IN 46044-0067.
  • Non-member fee is $15, member fee is $10, and covers one or all category entries (except wildcard category which is $2.00 extra.) If you are joining PSI, complete the New Member Form at poetrysocietyofindiana.org. The fee is $18 per year and includes membership in the National Federation of State Poetry Societies. Make check or money order payable to Poetry Society of Indiana.
  • No AI submissions. Submit one typed original poem, with the category number and name of the award in the upper left corner. Place your name and address in the upper right corner. This will be omitted on the copy the judge receives.
  • List your entries in the body of the email when you attach your entries. This email will serve as a cover sheet. If you choose to mail them, include a list on a separate paper.
  • Titles and blanks are not counted in line limits.
  • All poems must be original, unpublished works of the poet and not under consideration for publication. PSI defines publication as having an ISBN or ISSN.
  • Submit only one poem in each category.
  • No entries will be returned. However, if an entry does not pass the AI screening tool, it will be returned for the opportunity to correct and re-submit one time only.
  • Winning poems will be published in the PSI annual anthology.
  • Three honorable mentions will be awarded without prizes unless otherwise specified.
  • Entries not following the rules will be disqualified.

PSI hosts a state-level Manningham Trust Student Poetry Contest. Winners at the state level move up to the national level. The contest is open to students in grades 6-12. Deadline is always early winter
